Allison Hetherington, Public Affairs Manager at Bicycle Network Tasmania, recently shared her impressions from a visit to Green Square–Zetland, a major planned development near Sydney Airport.“I came away struck by the nice feel the streets and neighbourhood had despite tall apartment buildings. Mostly this was because the buildings were set back from paths or hidden by plants, there were frequent small parks and playgrounds, and street design prioritized walking, cycling and trees. We saw lots of families with children and people with dogs using the common areas."
Although Skylands is smaller and sits on steeper terrain, the qualities Allison found most appealing — green streets, safe walking and cycling routes, and frequent pocket parks — are at the heart of our design approach. Thank you, Allison, for sharing your observations and helping illustrate the kind of welcoming, people‑focused neighbourhood Skylands aims to become.
